Cognitive Analytic Therapy
Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) is a focused, time-limited psychological therapy suitable for a wide range of conditions. CAT clients usually undergo a period of brief therapy over 16-24 weeks as it facilitates a focused and collaborative approach with the client.
This kind of therapy offers a way of working with the problematic ways a person thinks, feels and acts, and the events and relationships that underlie their current experiences.
The unique feature about CAT is that it treats multiple symptoms or problems in one therapy. This means is can be used for a wide range of healthcare presentations as well as being individually personalised. CAT is used to help individuals with many difficult issues. With adult mental health problems, neurotic problems and difficulties in relationships being just a few of the difficult issues that CAT can help you with, this form of therapy is widely successful and extremely versatile.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a based on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) but has been adapted to help people who experience emotions intensely. DBT is similar to CBT in the fact that it focuses on helping you change unhelpful behaviours however DBT also focuses on accepting who you are at the same time.
During DBT we aim to help you learn to manage your difficult emotions by letting yourself experience, recognise and accept them. As you learn to accept and regulate your emotions through Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, you will also find that you are more able to change your harmful behaviour.
Through DBT our therapist will consistently work with you to find ways to hold two seemingly opposite perspectives at once. A lot of focus is given to promoting balance within your life to avoid an all-or -nothing style of thinking and encourage acceptance and change in life.
